Having a great infomercial prepares you for other marketing situations. How many times have you been at a social or business function and someone asks “What do you do? It isn’t easy to summarize your business so that you get follow-up questions. If you launch into your 60 sec you will scare people off. So what is the best approach?
Take elements out of your 60 sec and develop a concrete message that tells people about you, your product and service. The confidence you gain through BNI helps you deliver this message more smoothly and professionally without sounding robotic. Remember these tips when networking in other situations Keep it short. If the person you are talking to is interested they will ask questions. If they don’t ask questions they were just being polite Inform-don’t sell Informing the listener is always better than a sales pitch. Listen Good listening builds goodwill, trust and rapport. Don’t be anticipating or planning a response when you should be listening It is so obvious! Be yourself. There is no substitute for being authentic. Learn what about you make people receptive and master that. And as for your 60 sec at BNI…make it interesting. A previous member used to start off every week…when I was a little boy Robotic….and no one listens.
